1000x5 Book Recycling Project
Saanich/Peninsula
This project requests donations of used children's picture books from the community; collects the books at a number of easily assessable locations; sorts the books into 3 age appropriate preschool categories; distributes the books throughout the Saanich Peninsula to families with children under five years old enhancing literacy opportunities for their children. The project has distributed 40 000 books to children and families in the community as of 2011.

Victoria Project Expansion
Due to the success of this program, 1000x5 has expanded to the Victoria area. In partnership with the Victoria School District, in the first year, the Victoria Project has distributed 10,000 books to children and families who would otherwise have limited or no access to books to increase early literacy opportunities.
